Light:
This plant prefers moderate to bright, indirect sunlight. In the wild, it grows on the shaded rainforest floor, so direct sunlight will quickly scorch its velvety leaves and cause the vibrant colors to fade. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its growth will slow down.
Water:
Keep the soil consistently moist, but never soggy. Water your plant when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Calatheas are incredibly sensitive to the minerals, fluoride, and chlorine found in tap water, which often causes brown, crispy leaf edges. Whenever possible, use filtered water, rainwater, or distilled water.
Soil & Fertilizer:
Use a loose, well-draining potting mix that retains moisture without compacting. A mix of standard potting soil and perlite works beautifully. Feed your plant once a month during the spring and summer growing season.
