    Light:
    This desert native thrives on sunshine. Place your Rat Tail Cactus in a spot that receives plenty of bright, direct sunlight, such as a south- or west-facing window.

    Water:
    Keep a light hand with the watering can. Give the plant a thorough soaking only when the soil has completely dried out. During the active growing season in spring and summer, you will water a bit more frequently, but drastically cut back in the winter when the plant goes dormant.

    Soil:
    Excellent drainage is essential to keep this cactus happy. Use a gritty, loose cactus and succulent potting mix. You can easily create the perfect blend by mixing standard potting soil with plenty of perlite, pumice, or coarse sand to prevent moisture from trapping around the roots.
