Asplenium nidus ‘Antiquum’

  • Product Info

These Birds Nest Ferns are a great low light addition to any collection. Best kept in a humid spot such as a bathroom and watered to keep the soil slightly moist, they can do well in low light but will thrive in moderate shade.

  • Care guide:

    Light:
Bird’s Nest Ferns are adaptable and will grow well in any light condition, from full sun to low light. However, they thrive best in bright, indirect light. If placed in direct sunlight, be cautious of midday sun, which can occasionally scorch the leaves.

    Watering:
Bird’s Nest Ferns prefer consistently moist soil but are sensitive to overwatering. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and avoid pouring water directly into the central “nest,” as this can lead to rot. During the cooler months, reduce watering slightly, but don’t allow the soil to dry out completely.

    Soil:
Use a well-draining, moisture-retentive potting mix with some added moss or coco coir to hold moisture without becoming soggy. A mix designed for ferns works well, providing the light and airy texture this plant needs.

    Fertilizing:
Feed with a balanced, liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength once a month during spring and summer. In fall and winter, hold off on feeding, as the plant’s growth slows naturally.
