Aspidistra Cast Iron Plant

Aspidistra elatior

  • Product Info

Also called the 'Cast Iron Plant' because it's so resilient, Aspidistra is one of the easiest plants around. Highly adapted for low light and requiring watering only when completely dry, it's truly an easy care dream! For quicker growth they should be kept in bright shade but watered only marginally more.

  • Care guide:

    Light:
Aspidistra, or the cast iron plant, is highly adaptable and does well in low to moderate indirect light. It’s one of the few houseplants that can thrive in low light, making it perfect for dim corners or rooms with limited natural light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

    Watering:
Aspidistra prefers moderately moist soil but is tolerant of occasional drought. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, but be careful not to overwater, as it’s prone to root rot if the soil stays too wet. In winter, reduce watering and let the soil dry out slightly between waterings.

    Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally a standard indoor plant soil with added perlite or sand for better drainage. Aspidistras are hardy and can adapt to a variety of soil types as long as they are not overly compact.

    Fertilizing:
Feed the cast iron plant with a balanced, all-purpose liquid fertilizer every 2-3 months during spring and summer. This plant grows slowly, so it doesn’t require much fertilizer. Skip feeding during fall and winter when growth naturally slows.

  • Nursery Pot Size:

    19cm
