Spring is just around the corner – time to give your plants a fresh start. 🌿
Let’s make those plant babies happy and ready for the new season.
First things first: repotting session.
Pick your plants, choose a nice free afternoon, make yourself a big cup of tea, roll out your repotting mat and embrace the mess.
You don’t have to repot every plant in your collection. It’s perfectly fine to leave some for later - summer or even early autumn works too. Just make sure it’s done before winter arrives.
Once you’ve picked the plants that need repotting, it’s time to choose the right pot size.
For smaller plants, go about one inch bigger than the current pot. For medium or large plants like Monstera or Ficus, you can safely go two or even three sizes up.
We recommend clear nursery pots - that way you can see what’s happening inside without guessing. Happy roots = happy plants.
Now it’s time to get your hands dirty and give your plants a fresh start.
Quick repotting guide:
Choose the right pot.
Pick a pot slightly bigger than the current one and make sure it has drainage holes — soggy roots are never a good idea.
Use fresh soil.
Fill the new pot with fresh, well-draining potting mix suitable for your plant. New season = new nutrients.
Water before repotting.
Water your plant the day before. It reduces stress and makes removing it from the pot much easier.
Remove gently.
Loosen the roots carefully and remove the plant from its pot. Trim any dead or extra-long roots.
Settle in properly.
Place the plant at the same depth as before, fill with soil, press lightly, and water thoroughly.
You think your plant looks good and not sure if your plant needs repotting?
If the pot still feels slightly soft when you squeeze it, there’s probably still room for roots to grow - no rush. Instead, focus on trimming old leaves, checking for pests, and starting fertiliser with your regular watering.
No fertiliser yet? Check out our Repotting → All You Need section to find the best one for your plant babies.
Some plants need a little support
Had a successful growing season? Your plant might need backup. If your Monstera leaning to one side, or your Philodendron growing more sideways than upwards? Adding a moss pole or support will help your plant grow in the shape you want - and often encourages bigger leaves too.
Repotted? Fed? Support added? Great.
Last step: clean those leaves.
Dust blocks sunlight, attracts pests, and makes it harder for plants to photosynthesise. Give the leaves a gentle wipe with microfiber cleaning gloves to keep them shiny and healthy.
Finish with a little leaf shine or neem oil for that extra glow.
Now place your plant in its happy spot and let the green magic happen.
Mother Nature will do the rest. 🌱
